Between Two Rivers: Ten North Jersey Poets

William J. Higginson and Penny Harter, editors

"Between the flow of Hudson and Delaware, between the waves of business, school, studio, home, laboratory, and car, and the deeper swells of dream, emotion, and thought—we write. We are young or middle-aged, academically trained or street wise, suburban or urban, 'comfortable' or living one meal at a time."

Two sample pages from Between Two Rivers: Ten North Jersey Poets:

Catherine Doty is well-known in New Jersey poetry circles, with a fine collection of her poems recently published by CavanKerry Press, Momentum. Since Ten North Jersey Poets was published, she has earned an MFA in writing from the University of Iowa and has received numerous awards, including an Academy of American Poets Prize, fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the New York Foundation for the Arts, and the 2003 Marjorie J. Wilson Award. Cat's droll sense of humor also shows up in her book of cartoons, Just Kidding: Cartoons for Grown-Ups.

Gilbert Riou, who was already making a name for himself as a visual artist when we included him in this anthology, has since become a well-known realist painter in the New York-New Jersey art scene. He also continues his interest in drawing and a variety of art-print media. His work is handled by a number of galleries, including:

Sherry French Gallery, New York;
and The Artful Home, New York.

Gilbert also teaches at the Montclair Art Museum and the Livingston Art Association.
